The route
We cross from Dover or Folkestone and drive south and east through France to the Alps, entering Italy through the Fréjus tunnel from the Chambéry side or the Mont Blanc tunnel from Chamonix, depending on the destination and conditions. From there the autostrada network takes over: the A4 across the north for Turin, Milan and Verona; the A1 "Autostrada del Sole" down through Bologna and Florence to Rome; and the coastal routes for Liguria and the Adriatic. The Alpine leg is weather-dependent in winter, and we plan the timing around it.
Customs & paperwork
Italy needs a customs declaration and a full inventory for a household move, as everywhere in the EU since Brexit. Used belongings brought as your main home can usually come in under transfer-of-residence relief, with Italy’s own supporting forms. We prepare the declaration and transit documents, tell you exactly what to sign and provide, and manage the border so the load is not held up on the way in.
